Mohamed Taib bin Haji Abdul Samad (1858–1925), also known as Haji Mohamed Taib was a significant merchant in the early history of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Haji Taib was born in Batusangkar, West Sumatra and moved to Kuala Lumpur at 18 years old. He owned tin mines, plantation land and large numbers of houses and shops mostly in Malay Street (Jalan Melayu), Kuala Lumpur. He was a close acquaintance of Sultan Abdul Samad. In the late of 19th century, Haji Taib was one of the wealthiest merchants and development centre of city, Kampung Baru. He had 10 children, six sons and four daughters. His brother, Haji Abbas bin Haji Abdul Samad, also regarded as prominent merchants in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding area. Today, there is a street named after him in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, known as 'Lorong Haji Taib'.

Pincus Green (born July 5, 1934) is an American oil and gas commodities trader. In 1983 Green and his business partner Marc Rich were indicted on charges of tax evasion relating to illegal trading with Iran, including deals that were done while the Ayatollahs were holding Americans hostage in Tehran. At the time, it was the largest tax-fraud case in US history. In order to avoid prosecution, Green and Rich fled the United States and moved to Switzerland. However, in 2001 Green and Rich received a controversial presidential pardon from President Bill Clinton, which prompted fierce public criticism as well as a bipartisan Congressional investigation.

Sir William Taylor Money, FRS (c. 4 September 1769 – April 1834) was a Bombay Marine officer, merchant and politician. Serving as a captain in the Bombay Marine, he commanded several merchantmen before being appointed superintendent of the Marine, where he oversaw the protection of East India Company (EIC) shipping routes in the Indian Ocean. Money later became a director of the EIC and a member of parliament, contributing to British commercial policies, naval strategy and scientific exploration. Money Island is named in his honor.

David Beresford Pratt (1 October 1908 – 1 October 1961) was a British and South African businessman, farmer, and anti-apartheid activist. He was a wealthy liberal who was deeply upset over black poverty and racial segregation and spoke out against apartheid. Outraged by the Sharpeville massacre, Pratt tried to assassinate South African Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd, shooting him twice. Verwoerd survived, but was successfully assassinated six years later by Dimitri Tsafendas.
