Rock Creek Township is one of twenty-four townships in Hancock County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 322 and it contained 155 housing units. It was formed from Sonora and Pilot Grove townships on April 27, 1855.

Many of the old gravestones are no longer legible. A large stone designating Rock Creek Cemetery has the names of descendants on its back.

Demographics

As of the 2020 census there were 322 people, 149 households, and 83 families residing in the township. The population density was 8.95 PD/sqmi. There were 155 housing units at an average density of 4.31 /sqmi. The racial makeup of the township was 90.99% White, 0.62% African American, 0.62% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.80% from other races, and 4.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.42% of the population.

There were 149 households, out of which 16.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.34% were married couples living together, 0.67% had a female householder with no spouse present, and 44.30% were non-families. 44.30% of all households were made up of individuals, and 21.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.10 and the average family size was 2.94.

The township's age distribution consisted of 15.3% under the age of 18, 2.2% from 18 to 24, 14.7% from 25 to 44, 32.9% from 45 to 64, and 34.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 55.9 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.0 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $41,339, and the median income for a family was $78,068. Males had a median income of $48,750 versus $26,000 for females. The per capita income for the township was $30,018. About 7.2% of families and 15.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 29.2% of those under age 18 and 27.5% of those age 65 or over.
