History
C. R. Gregory dated the manuscript to the 13th century. It has been assigned by the Institute for New Testament Textual Research to the 14th century.
Edward Everett, an American educator (who later became famous as a politician, diplomat, and orator), bought the manuscript in 1819 during his first visit in Greece, along with six other Greek manuscripts. Everett used any opportunity of searching for Greek manuscripts.
The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by Caspar René Gregory (number 298e). Scrivener catalogued this manuscript as 485e on his list.{{Cite book | last = Scrivener | first = Frederick Henry Ambrose | authorlink = Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener |author2=Edward Miller | title = A Plain Introduction to the Criticism of the New Testament, Vol. 1 | publisher = George Bell & Sons | edition = 4th | year = 1894 | location = London | page = 357 | url = https://archive.org/stream/aplainintroducti00scriuoft#page/356/mode/2up | isbn =
The manuscript was examined by Edward A. Guy, who designated it by siglum 3h (Lectionary 296 received siglum 1h). and Emilie Boer examined and described the manuscript.
The manuscript is not cited in the critical editions of the Greek New Testament (UBS3).
The codex is housed at the Houghton Library (MS. Gr. 12) in the Harvard University.
