Membership changes

Confirmed changes

The following schools announced changes in conferences during this period of 2010–2014. The year given is the academic year in which the change occurred, which for spring sports differs from the year in which competition began.

Aborted changes

In addition to the above moves, several schools announced intended changes of conference, but then changed course without ever competing in the new conference, selecting a different conference instead or deciding not to move at all. While not actualized, some of these announced conference changes altered the dynamic of the broader realignment.

Rumored and possible changes

Below is a list of schools that reportedly considered changing conferences during the 2010–13 conference realignment. Speculation more than a year old without further news, or superseded by subsequent events, is shaded.

Several years after realignment, C-USA dropped rowing, and the Big 12 effectively absorbed C-USA rowing.

At the time that East Carolina (football), Houston, Memphis, Navy (football), Old Dominion (field hockey), SMU, Temple, and UCF announced their respective moves, their destination conference was known as the [[Big East Conference (1979–2013). Big East Conference]]. By the time Tulsa announced their move, it had been decided that as of July 2013, the [[Big East Conference. Big East name]] would be assumed by the seven non-FBS schools that would soon depart from the original Big East. The remaining schools and the new members of the conference that retained the charter of the original Big East then chose a new name, the [[American Athletic Conference]].

65. Butler's move to the A10 was originally scheduled for the 2013–14 school year. On May 29, 2012, Butler reached a settlement with the Horizon League that allowed it to join the A10 for 2012–13.
66. At the time Texas State and UT Arlington announced their moves to the Sun Belt Conference, they were still members of the Southland Conference. The two schools did not join the WAC until July 1, 2012.

The formation of the new Big East out of the old Big East, with the remnant renamed The American, left both resulting conferences with too few field hockey and lacrosse programs for effective competition. As part of their separation agreement, The American and the new Big East agreed that at least for the 2013/14 season all field hockey and lacrosse-sponsoring schools in The American would become affiliate members of the new Big East for these sports; this arrangement continues to this day. The same applies to Old Dominion, which had previously announced its intent to become a field hockey affiliate in the old Big East for the 2013/14 season. Louisville and Rutgers were affiliates of the new Big East for the 2013–14 school year only, before departing for their respective future all-sports conferences.

148. Every other full member departed the Great West Conference, effective July 1, 2013. Unable to replace the departing members, the Conference discontinued operation on that date. Failing to find a new conference, NJIT became independent by default, without formal announcement to that effect. It would eventually join the [[Atlantic Sun Conference. ASUN Conference]] in 2015, after the end of the realignment cycle.

164. Notre Dame College housed five of its 22 sports in the [[Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference]] before announcing its move to the Mountain East.
165. Urbana had been a full member of the non-football Great Midwest Athletic Conference, with its football team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
166. Before its move to the Mountain East, UVA–Wise was in the midst of a transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. It was in its last season as a full NAIA member, and ultimately became a full NCAA member in 2013–14.
