(21 January 2009) (13 January 2009) The 2008–09 season was Burnley's 9th season in the second tier of English football. They were managed by Owen Coyle – his second season since he replaced Steve Cotterill on 8 November 2007. Burnley finished fifth in the league but were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Football League Championship playoffs. It was the first time the club was in the top division of English Football for 33 years.
