The Calgary Hitmen won their second consecutive Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for having the league's best regular season record. In the playoffs, the Kootenay Ice won the franchise's first President's Cup in just their second season playing in Cranbrook, British Columbia.

League notes

  • The WHL followed the lead of the National Hockey League and adopted both 4-on-4 overtime and a standings format that saw teams losing in overtime earn one point.
