Reduvius is a large genus of reduviids. The masked hunter, Reduvius personatus, is an example of this genus.

They measure 8–22 mm. They are the largest predatory insects and one of the largest clades of predatory insects. They are found in many terrestrial ecosystems and microhabitats, ranging from mammal burrows in the desert to logs in rainforests.

Carnivory

The Assassin Bug hides under flowers to stay hidden, then when an insect lands on the flower, the Assassin Bug jumps out and grabs the insect. Sticky hairs or pads on its feet prevent the insect from slipping out of the Assassin Bug's grip, which are a little like the Sundew and Butterwort, two flypaper carnivorous plants. The Assassin Bug impales its prey with its probosis and injects an insect-fatal saliva into the prey's body. Then it feeds. Some Assassin Bugs pursue their prey like dragonflies, while others look like harmless Camponotus Carpenter Ants, tricking insects into thinking they're harmless little ants just looking for nectar.--
