Croesus
Croesus (/ˈkriːsəs/ KREE-səs; Ancient Greek: Κροῖσος, romanized: Kroîsos) was the last king of Lydia from 585 or 561 BC to 547 BC. He ruled Lydia until his defeat at the siege of Sardis by the Persian king Cyrus the Great. According to Herodotus, he reigned 14 years. Croesus was renowned for his wealth; Herodotus and Pausanias noted that his gifts were preserved at Delphi.
