He was known as a nationalistic cultural figure, who directed plays, wrote poetry and led Tarawih gatherings. In 1970 he took part in a conference for the 50th anniversary of Tatarstan in Kazan. His son Räshid Hakimsan (Reşid Hakimcan; 1934–1997) was a hockey player and referee.
